Sacred Music Festival
Saturday, January 27, 2024, Feast of Saint Devote
Celebrations of Saint Dévote, patron saint of Monaco, are one of the Principality's oldest traditions. Stemming from the "Legend of Saint Devote" handed down in a medieval document, this festival has permeated national culture in fields as diverse as faith, folklore, popular beliefs, history, literature, the arts, painting, music and philately. This year, Monaco also celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Rainier III, the beloved "builder prince".
To mark these two celebrations, the Sacrée Musique festival is organizing a grand candlelit concert at Notre-Dame-Immaculée Cathedral. The event is organized in partnership with the Direction des Affaires Culturelles, the Diocese of Monaco and the Académie de Musique et de Théâtre Fondation Prince Rainier III.
- 9am-12pm: Masterclass by Nigel Short, conductor of the Tenebrae Choir, with the Children's Choir of the Prince Rainier III Foundation Academy of Music and Theater, directed by Bruno Habert.
- 10am: Candlelit Sainte Dévote mass led by the Maîtrise de la Cathédrale de Monaco. Presided over by Archbishop Dominique-Marie David, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II.
- 18h: Concert by the internationally renowned English choir Tenebrae Choir, directed by Nigel Short, with the children's choir of the Prince Rainier III Foundation Academy of Music and Theatre, directed by Bruno Habert.
- 19h30: Free tour of Monaco Cathedral, illuminated with 3,000 candles in tribute to Prince Rainier III and his wife Princess Grace.
